The Quarries produced granite for over a century and is the site for the first railroad in the United States. Today it’s owned and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation for the public’s use. It’s known for hiking and rock climbing which I will admire from a far. There’s no way in hell you’ll catch me rock climbing – well, never say never, but right now it’s a no. I will however do a mild hike because the view of Boston is beautiful. Especially at sunrise or sunset.
Now don’t be fooled, the Quarries are high and can be dangerous. This is as far as I went for my hike because some areas just made me too nervous. Maybe after a few trips I’ll make it to the other side, but this was good enough for now.
A beautiful view of Boston from the Quarries. Fun Fact: Scenes from the 2007 movie Gone Baby Gone directed by Ben Affleck were filmed at the Quarries.
This is probably one of my favorite photos. Although it was really cold (hence why Whitey’s snuggled up in my coat) the morning hike was worth it. It was so quiet, peaceful and beautiful!
If you’re interested in experiencing the Quarries for yourself, here’s how to get there.
